The students of Des Rives High School spent an entire week at Pok-O-MacCready Outdoor Educational Center. The campus consists of over 300 acres inside the beautiful 6 million acre Adirondack Park, the East’s Largest Wilderness. Its Waterfront sits on the southern shore of Long Pond, providing easy access to great areas and materials for the Pond Ecology class.
We spent our week in 3 of the 4 modern, winterized dorms, MacCready Lodge, Aunt Sarah, Jr. House, and Farmhouse. Together, they can accommodate up to 130 people.
We had delicious family-style meals such as bacon and eggs, hot and cold cereals, in the morning. Lunch time and dinner were also great and tasty, hot soup, baked beans, and always had huge amount of veggies as part of the meal or in salads. The center counts on the Pok-O-Queen Dining Hall, which can seat 120 people.
Beyond the items mentioned above, we had several outdoor classrooms. Some are listed below. We also visited the nearby 1812 Homestead.
